Eight questions, answered
What does a private room cost?
Room hire is £300 to £550 in 2026 (£350 to £600 in 2027, subject to change) depending on the room, for up to five hours, and covers the set-up, an event coordinator and butler service. Food is priced per head on top: afternoon tea from £32.95, the pie menu £42.50, Host a Roast £46.50, the celebration menu £54.50.
How many people can you take?
Four in the Stone Gazebo, 14 in the Ayrton Room, 20 in the De Aldworth Room, 40 in the Abraham Brigg Room and up to 120 in the Stuart Room. A party of 12 or fewer can also book a table in the restaurant without hiring a room.
Can we decorate the room?
Yes. Balloons, bunting, table confetti and your own centrepieces are all welcome, and the room is yours from the start of the hire to dress it. We lay the tables with white linen, glassware and cutlery; you bring the table plan.
How do drinks work?
From the bar as you go, on a tab, or as one of three drinks packages at £34.50, £42 and £55 a head, each with an arrival drink, half a bottle of wine and a glass of fizz for the toast.
Can guests stay over?
There are 32 bedrooms in the house. Ask about a rate for your party when you book the room.
Do you host funeral teas and wakes?
Yes, and have for many years, with the care that day needs. A private room, a hot or cold buffet, a restaurant meal or an afternoon tea, and a team who know the funeral directors across the district. Call and we will make it simple.
Is there a minimum number?
Afternoon tea parties in a private room are for ten or more. The dinner menus have minimum numbers depending on the room; tell us how many you are and we will say which rooms fit.
Do you do corporate dinners, and proposals?
Both. A client dinner or a team night in the Ayrton or De Aldworth Room, with a tab at the bar and rooms upstairs for anyone staying; the Stuart Room for a company party. For a proposal, the Stone Gazebo is dinner for two with a fire and nobody else, and we keep the secret until you say the word.
Tell us the date and the numbers
The form takes a minute and reaches the coordinator, the General Manager and reception together. Or ring, and reception will put you through.
