The Couples Spa Retreat
A four-hour spa day each at The Farmhouse Treatment Rooms, a two-course dinner in our restaurant and a night in a House room, with the day stretched at both ends: in at noon, out at noon.

In at twelve, and straight across the paddock
Check-in is from 12 noon on this one, so the day starts when you arrive rather than at tea time. Leave the bags with reception and a member of the team walks you both through the gardens to The Farmhouse Treatment Rooms, a two-minute stroll from the front door. Unlike the large commercial spas, you won’t find crowds here, and there’s no pool: two treatment rooms, two lounges with a fire, and whoever else is in that afternoon. This year The Farmhouse is a finalist at the Good Spa Guide Awards 2026, for Best New Spa and Best Spa in the North East.

Four hours, robes on
A robe and slippers are waiting, and you start at the sensory bar, choosing the GROUND Wellbeing scent your treatment will be built around. Then a smoothie and pastries by the fire, the relaxation lounge with a heated eye mask if you’d like one, and a one-course light lunch when you’re ready for it. Nobody hurries you, and the two of you set the pace.

Sixty minutes each, massage or facial
You each choose a 60-minute ritual: a massage or a facial with GROUND, the Irish skincare brand that’s 100 percent vegan, tailored to what you need that day. Couples can be treated side by side in the larger of the two treatment rooms when the diary allows; just ask when you book and we’ll do our best. The longer rituals, the private infrared sauna suite and the Soak Room can be added by the hour.

Dinner in the old house
Back across the paddock for a two-course dinner from the chef’s set menu in one of our three intimate dining rooms, each with its own open fire. Head Chef Matt Rush’s menu follows the seasons, there are non-alcoholic wines and cocktails alongside the wine list, and the Long Bar is there for something before or after. We can cater for most dietary requirements on request; just tell us when you book.

Your room, and a bed you won’t want to leave
Each of our House doubles and twins is uniquely decorated: William Morris wallpapers, cosy occasional chairs, proper pillows, White Company toiletries and a tray with real coffee. Some rooms have a bath with a shower over it, some a walk-in shower, and a few have both, so tell us which you’d prefer when you book. Should you wish, you can upgrade to a split-level or executive suite when you book, and if you’ve stayed with us before and have a favourite room, just let us know. We’ll always do our best. The house goes quiet early.

A lie-in, breakfast, and no rush to leave
Our famous Yorkshire breakfast, cooked to order: the full Yorkshire, eggs Benedict, pancakes with maple syrup, or something lighter from the continental table. Check-out is at noon on this package, so there’s time for a second coffee and a last walk round the knot garden before you go.

Huda, on the Couples Retreat, a Google review of The Farmhouse Treatment RoomsEight questions, answered
Can we have our treatments at the same time?
Usually, yes. The larger treatment room takes two couches, so you can be treated side by side when the diary allows. Say so when you book and we’ll do our best.
Massage or facial?
Each of you chooses: any 60-minute massage ritual or facial from The Farmhouse menu, and you don’t have to pick the same thing. The longer rituals can be booked as an upgrade.
When is the spa day?
The afternoon you arrive, as a rule: check in from noon, walk over, and the four hours run from there. A member of the team rings after you book to fix the times.
Is it only for two?
It is. For a night away with one treatment, the Wellbeing Escape is the one; for three or more of you, ring reception on 01422 240024 and we’ll put something together.
Is there a pool or a sauna?
No pool. There’s a private infrared sauna suite, booked by the hour for sole use, from £40, and the Soak Room with its freestanding bath. The Farmhouse is about treatments and quiet, not a wet spa.
Can I have a treatment if I’m pregnant?
Yes. There’s a pregnancy massage ritual on the menu; tell the team when you book so they plan the right treatment for you.
Does the room have a bath or a shower?
It depends on the room. Some have a bath with a shower over it, some a walk-in shower, and a few have both: the split-level suites all have a bath with a shower over it, three of the executive suites have a bath and a separate walk-in shower, and the other three a large walk-in shower. Tell us which you’d prefer when you book. If the room you’re given isn’t right, just say at reception and if there’s something else free we’ll happily move you.
What if we need to cancel?
Your card secures the booking. Cancel seven days or more before arrival and there’s nothing to pay; inside seven days the stay is charged in full. Ring reception on 01422 240024 if your dates need to move.
