Stop 1: Halifax Town Centre
Just 10 minutes from Holdsworth House. Halifax is at the heart of Calderdale’s screen success story. Its striking architecture and historic mill buildings have featured in a remarkable number of productions.
Riot Women (BBC, 2025) film locations
Created by Sally Wainwright, this new drama includes scenes filmed at Holdsworth House, which appears in Series 1 as the care home Beth visits. Cast members stayed at the hotel during filming.
Last Tango in Halifax (BBC, 2012–2020) TV film locations
Another Sally Wainwright favourite starring Sarah Lancashire, Anne Reid and Sir Derek Jacobi. Filming took place across Halifax and Calderdale, including the wedding scene at Holdsworth House.
Happy Valley (BBC, 2014–2023) BAFTA-winning show filming locations
The award-winning crime drama that helped define Calderdale on screen. Holdsworth House appears in Series 3, Episode 5, during a tense meeting between Richard Cawood and crime boss Darius Knezevic. Over the years, many members of the cast and crew stayed here, including James Norton.

Starring Samuel L Jackson and Martin Freeman, this international production transformed parts of Halifax into scenes from the Marvel universe. The Piece Hall and Dean Clough Mills were both used extensively.
A Gentleman in Moscow (Paramount+, 2024) film location
Starring Ewan McGregor, who stayed at Holdsworth House during filming. The Piece Hall doubled as a Moscow square, showcasing Halifax’s versatility as a filming location.

St Thomas the Apostle Churchyard (HX7 7NJ), used for Becky’s grave scenes. The churchyard is also the final resting place of poet Sylvia Plath. Nearby lies “King” David Hartley of the Cragg Vale Coiners, whose story inspired The Gallows Pole (BBC, 2023).

Stop 3: Bridestones Moor
Around 15 minutes from Hebden Bridge. End your trail with open skies and dramatic Yorkshire scenery.
The Bridestones, near Todmorden, are striking millstone grit rock formations set against sweeping moorland. Weathered and sculptural, they provide one of the most atmospheric landscapes in the region.
Wuthering Heights (2026) filming location
Directed by Emerald Fennell and starring Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi, this adaptation used the Bridestones Moors in West Yorkshire and surrounding moors for filming key scenes in the blockbuster.
Margot Robbie, Jacob Elordi and Emerald Fennell stayed at Holdsworth House for one night during filming in 2025.
The Gallows Pole (BBC, 2023) film location
Created by Shane Meadows, the Bridestones appeared as “Stagg Moors” in this dramatic retelling of the Cragg Vale Coiners story.
