A proud new chapter has been added to Holdsworth House’s rich history—officially marking our place in the story of the world’s greatest band.
On 30 April 2025, we were thrilled to unveil a prestigious Blue Plaque, awarded by the Halifax Civic Trust, commemorating The Beatles' stay at Holdsworth House on 9 October 1964—the very night they kicked off their Autumn tour at the Gaumont Theatre in Bradford.
The plaque now takes pride of place at our hotel entrance, celebrating a unique moment in musical history and recognising Holdsworth House as one of only three sites in the UK to receive Beatles-related Blue Plaque status.

A Day to Remember
The Blue Plaque was officially unveiled by the Mayor of Calderdale, Councillor Ann Kingstone, during a special ceremony attended by local dignitaries, business leaders and heritage lovers. We were also joined by a few Beatles fans who had attended that very 1964 Gaumont concert—and brought along treasured memorabilia to share their memories of that iconic night.
Guests gathered in our beautiful gardens under baking sunny skies, enjoying drinks, canapés and a playlist recreated from the Beatles' original 1964 tour setlist—bringing the spirit of the Swinging Sixties back to life.
Stories from the Night the Beatles Stayed
Kim and Gail Pearson, owners of Holdsworth House and eyewitnesses to The Beatles’ visit, shared personal memories of meeting the Fab Four as they checked in late that October night. In a nostalgic touch, the original bedframe used by John Lennon during the band's stay (and on what was also his 24th birthday), was on display for the occasion after years in safe storage.
Double the Celebration
The Blue Plaque unveiling was just one reason to celebrate. That same week, Holdsworth House was named Best Hotel in Yorkshire in the Muddy Stilettos Awards 2025, thanks to the wonderful public vote. We were also awarded the TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence for the 15th year running, placing us in the top 10% of hotels worldwide.
