Why couples from Leeds choose us

Close enough for everyone, far enough to feel away

Most of our couples come from Bradford, Halifax, Huddersfield and Leeds. They want a proper country house wedding without a two-hour drive for their guests, and without sharing the venue with another wedding on the same day.

From Leeds it is forty minutes: along the M62 and up through Hipperholme, and you are on the hill above Halifax with the moors behind you. Forty minutes is the point: your guests are away from town, staying over, together. Guests park free, sleep on site in one of 32 bedrooms, and have breakfast together the morning after. The house has been in the same family since 1963 and has hosted weddings for over sixty years.

Ceremonies happen in the Stuart Room under the oak beams, in the walled gardens, or in the 17th century stone gazebo. The wedding breakfast seats up to 120, the evening party up to 150, and the courtyard takes 80 for drinks in the sun.

Getting here from Leeds

Forty minutes, and nobody needs a hotel in town

  • By car: about 40 minutes and 18 miles from Leeds city centre: M62 west to junction 26, then the A58 through Hipperholme, or out through Bradford. Free parking for 60 cars at the house, no permits, no meters.
  • Guests staying over: 32 bedrooms on site, from doubles and twins to family rooms and suites, with breakfast the next morning. Many couples pass the room cost to guests; it works out at around £160 a room for bed and breakfast, and the bridal suite is included in most packages.
  • Also close: Halifax 10 minutes, Bradford 20, Huddersfield 25, the M62 15. Leeds Bradford Airport is 30 minutes for anyone flying in.
  • Taxis and coaches: the drive is short enough for a coach to do two runs, and Halifax taxis know the house.

Questions couples from Leeds ask us

How far is Holdsworth House from Leeds?

About 40 minutes by car, 18 miles: M62 to junction 26, then the A58 through Hipperholme. Free parking for 60 cars when you arrive, and 32 bedrooms so nobody drives back to Leeds that night.

Can our guests stay the night?

Yes. There are 32 bedrooms on site, and with exclusive use all of them are yours. Guests book through our wedding guest page at a wedding rate, and breakfast is served to everyone the next morning.

Can we have the ceremony there too?

Yes. The house is licensed for civil ceremonies indoors and out: the Stuart Room for up to 120, the walled gardens, and the 17th century stone gazebo for the smallest weddings. Ceremony, wedding breakfast and evening party all happen in one place.

Will there be another wedding on the same day?

No. We host one wedding a day, so the house, the gardens and the team are yours from the first guest to the last dance.

What does a wedding cost?

Every package has its price online. The wedding finder asks you four questions and shows you the packages that fit your numbers and your date, with the price for each. Midweek and off-peak dates cost less.

Can you cater for dietary requirements and different cuisines?

Every dietary requirement is catered for, and menus are shaped around what you want with our chefs. Tell the wedding team what you have in mind at your show round.
