Something Special, Somewhere Unique

With historical ties to local luminaries including Anne Lister and the Bronte family, Holdsworth House is the perfect place to relax and treat yourself to something special, somewhere unique.

What licenses does Holdsworth House hold?
Holdsworth House is fully licensed for marriages by official council registrars and can host your entire wedding day: your marriage ceremony, wedding breakfast and your evening reception.
You can be married in any room at Holdsworth House; the Gazebo is the smallest wedding venue in England. You can even marry outdoors, beneath the Colonnade Courtyard or the Garden Gazebo.
The hotel is licensed to sell alcohol until Midnight for wedding guests, with music ending at 12.30am. Hotel residents can be served alcohol in the hotel bar until 1.00am.
Do you hold more than one wedding a day?
No we only permit one wedding per day.
I only want a small wedding; can I still hold it at Holdsworth House?
Yes you can have a big wedding or a small wedding: we have packages for both or can create something bespoke for you. There are five rooms available for eight to 120 guests seated comfortably. Evening receptions can accommodate up to 150 guests.
Do you cater for LGBT couples?
Yes we welcome all couples
Are children counted in wedding numbers?
Children don’t count for minimum numbers in our wedding packages – these have to be adult places. But children are counted in your final numbers to ensure everyone has enough space at the dining tables. We can fit up to 120 people for a reception or 150 in the evening. Children can dine from our special children’s wedding menu or have half portions of the adult meal. Any child taking a full adult meal will be counted as adults and charged the full rate.
Do my guests get a special overnight room rate?
Yes, you will be allocated a special wedding rate for your party, which is valid up to 6 weeks out and only bookable direct. Rooms are sold on a first come first serve basis and the rate is available up to six weeks before your wedding date. Within six weeks of your wedding date, if your guests haven’t yet booked, they will be required to pay our Best Available Rate, which could be higher than the wedding rate but – if booked direct - is always £5 cheaper than any other website.
There are 36 ensuite bedrooms including twin rooms, doubles, suites, interconnecting rooms, accessible rooms and dog-friendly rooms.
Will there be other guests in the hotel?
Yes, unless you take out Exclusive Use there may be other hotel guests and restaurant diners, however they will not be permitted access to the areas designated to your wedding party.
Can I hold a religious ceremony at Holdsworth House?
Religious ceremonies cannot be held at Holdsworth House: it is not a designated religious site. You can get married in the religious venue of your choice and then hold your wedding reception and evening party with us. Civil marriages/partnerships are permitted here and conducted by the Halifax Registrars.
Can I bring decorations beforehand?
Yes you can bring table gifts or decorations to the hotel the day before and we will store them for you. It is unlikely you will have access to the function room until the morning of your wedding. Our team can put simple table decorations/gifts out for you if you provide clear instructions and plenty of notice. Please speak to our wedding coordinator to discuss your ideas.
Can we bring our own drinks?
Sorry no, we don’t offer a corkage service. Holdsworth House has a strict policy of bringing no alcohol onto the property; any evidence of such will result in immediate confiscation and a fee chargeable to the bride/groom as listed in the contract that you are required to sign. Holdsworth House will not tolerate the use of any illegal drugs or narcotics by any person on the premises: any illegal drugs found on any persons or on the premises will result in the management immediately notifying the police.
Where will the bride/groom get ready at the hotel?
If you are getting married at the hotel we allocate a changing room to your bridal party for you to use the morning of your wedding, usually a Suite. Most brides/grooms book this room the night before their wedding.
Can I allocate certain bedrooms at the hotel to certain guests?
Yes any bedroom can be booked by paying a £50.00 non-refundable deposit per night. To allocate rooms to VIPs in your party call Reception on 01422 240024; our team can put a guest’s name to specific rooms.
Are your rooms Accessible?
Yes we have Accessible bedrooms with wide doors and showers, and ramps for accessing the function rooms by wheelchair. Designated parking spaces and an Accessible cloakroom are also available close to reception. As an historic building Holdsworth House does not have a lift and the ground floor has three small sections of stairs, which are avoided by Accessible routes outside the building. The quickest route for wheelchair users to the Stuart Room from reception/cloakroom is 10 metres across the car park and via the fire doors.
