Winter weddings in a Jacobean manor house
Stone fireplaces lit, candlelight down the length of the Stuart Room, frosted gardens and, from the last day of November each year, the whole house dressed for Christmas. A winter wedding venue in West Yorkshire where the house is at its best, and the price is at its lowest.
Our Signature wedding package is up to £3,000 less in winter than in summer. Until the end of February 2027, exclusive use of the house and all 32 bedrooms is £3,995 instead of £9,500. From October to March there are no minimum numbers on any day of the week. And on the dates we have left this winter, there is a late availability price: married by March from £3,950.
Two offers this winter, and one for 2027
The diary is quieter between October and March, so this is where you will find the best prices. Every offer is on the wedding offers page in full, with the dates by email.

A house built for winter
Holdsworth House was built in 1633 by people who knew what a Pennine winter was. Thick stone walls, mullioned windows, oak panelling and big fireplaces: the house was designed to be warm and inviting when it is dark outside, and it still is.
Your ceremony is indoors, in the Hall for 40, the Abraham Brigg Room for 80 or the Stuart Room for 120, and from May 2027 the new Regency Room for 60. Drinks by the fire, four courses in the Stuart Room, and the party in the same room until 12.30am. Photographs indoors or out, whatever the weather.
"We had a wish list: small, friendly, with an open fire. We got all of our wish list and more. Exclusive use was still affordable and great value."
A couple married at Holdsworth House in FebruaryChristmas weddings, already decorated
Every year our venue dresser decorates the whole house for Christmas: real trees with lights, garlands down the staircase and wreaths on the doors. From 30 November to 31 December our Christmas wedding venue comes ready dressed at no cost, so your décor budget only goes on the tables. Your own florist is welcome to add to it.
A December wedding date has two quiet advantages. Most guests are already on annual leave, so the people who matter can come and stay. And your anniversary is one nobody forgets.
A New Year's Eve wedding is a party of its own. The whole house becomes yours exclusively for the night, 80 day and 100 evening guests, with breakfast together on New Year's Day. The New Year's Eve package, from £18,500 in 2027.
Photographs in winter light
In December the sun is low all day and setting by four, which photographers love: the soft light lands on the front of the house in the middle of the afternoon, when a summer wedding is still waiting for it. Then the house lights come on and the windows glow; the evening photographs are the ones people frame.
The weather is the question every winter couple asks. The honest answer is that the house is warm, your ceremony is indoors, and we have a long record of staying open when the roads are snowy. One November the snow came overnight and our wedding coordinator stayed at Holdsworth House the night before to be sure the wedding went ahead. It did. With 32 bedrooms, your guests can do the same.
The winter diary, October to March
Six months, each with its own reason. The shaded ones carry a current offer.
October
The gardens turn golden and the shadows get longer. Winter prices start on 1 October, and the £3,995 exclusive use offer runs from now to February.
November
The fires are lit, the low sun comes through the mullioned windows, and the Christmas decorations go up at the end of the month.
December
Ready for Christmas weddings, the halls dressed and the wreaths hung. Guests have annual leave booked. New Year's Eve is an exclusive-use wedding with the whole house to yourselves.
January
The quietest month of the year and the best value Saturday you will find. The dates we have left are at the late availability price, booked by 31 October.
February
Exclusive use still £3,995, the late availability price still running, and Valentine's weekend weddings are always popular.
March
The last month of winter pricing and the last month without minimum numbers. The gardens are waking up and the first buds are out.
What couples ask about winter
Is a winter wedding cheaper at Holdsworth House?
Yes, and it is the same wedding. The Signature package on a Friday or Saturday from October to March is up to £3,000 less than on a Saturday from April to September, and Sunday to Thursday in winter is £2,000 to £6,500 less. On top of that this winter: exclusive use of the house for £3,995 instead of £9,500 (weddings to the end of February 2027), and a late availability price on the dates we have left between November 2026 and March 2027, from £3,950 for 50 guests, booked by 31 October.
Do minimum guest numbers apply in winter?
No. Minimum numbers only apply from 1 April to 30 September, when Saturdays need 80 day and 100 evening guests and Fridays 60 day and 80 evening. From October to March you can have a Saturday wedding for 40 guests. The exclusive use offer is the one exception: it needs at least 60 day and 80 evening guests.
Can we marry outdoors in winter?
The gardens, the courtyards and the Stone Gazebo are licensed for ceremonies from May to September. In winter your ceremony is indoors: the Hall for up to 40, the Abraham Brigg Room for up to 80, the Stuart Room for up to 120, and from May 2027 the Regency Room for up to 60. The gardens are still yours for the photographs, frost and all.
What happens if it snows?
The wedding happens. We have a long record of staying open in bad weather, and the team has stayed over the night before when snow was forecast so the day was never in doubt. With 32 bedrooms, guests travelling any distance can arrive the night before and make a weekend of it.
Is the house decorated for a Christmas wedding?
Yes. A professional venue dresser decorates the whole house every year with real Christmas trees, garlands and lights, and it stays up from 30 November to 31 December. Your own florist can add to it.
