In fact, when Anne Lister lived at Shibden Hall, the wealthy landowner Elizabeth Wadsworth lived at Holdsworth House. Wadsworth also kept detailed diaries and both Wadsworth and Lister’s diaries are kept on deposit at West Yorkshire Archive Service, and both document life in the early 1800s; the similarities are spine-tingling. We’ve discovered that Lister and Wadsworth knew of each other, and Wadsworth also knew Patrick Bronte.
