Cracking the Code with Helena Whitbread
Anne Lister author and historian, Helena Whitbread, took centre stage at Holdsworth House to reveal her knowledge and passion for Anne Lister. Helena spent over 30 years painstakingly decoding the Anne Lister diaries (Lister's complete set comprises over 5 million words). It was Helena's tireless work, which began as a research project, that has helped reveal the Anne Lister story to the world.
The event took place on 26 June 2019 at Holdsworth House Hotel in Halifax, close to the home of Anne Lister - Shibden Hall. Helena was interviewed by Holdsworth House's owner, Gail.
Who was the real Anne Lister?
Dr Jill Liddington is an authoratitive voice on 19th century diarist Anne Lister, after decades of research and writings. Jill revealed her insights at Holdsworth House Hotel in Halifax, September 2019.
