The Holdsworth House Diamond Anniversary Art Competition seeks to encourage artists of all ages to showcase their talent and creativity while celebrating the hotel's 60th year in business.

To enter, submit a 2-D painting or drawing (oil, watercolour, acrylic, mixed media, pencil, charcoal, pastel, carving, collage, ink or digital) of the front view of Holdsworth House. Read the full submission guidelines below.
There are two categories: 18+ Years, Under-18 Years
Closing date 10th September 2023
Entries must depict the front aspect of Holdsworth House Hotel & Restaurant.
Artists may submit up to two images of their artwork per entry, and up to two entries.
Artwork should be original, no bigger than A1 in size (594 x 841 mm), and not previously exhibited or published.
For digital art submissions, artists must create their artwork without the use of AI apps, programs, or filters to enhance or create the art.
All entries must be submitted initially as high-resolution digital images (JPEG, JPG, TIFF or PNG) with a minimum resolution of 300 dpi and a maximum file size of 10 MB.
Artists must complete the online registration form, agree to the terms and conditions and upload their artwork by midnight on 10th September 2023. For Under 18 category entries, a parent/carer should complete the registration form on behalf of the artist.

Creativity and Originality: The artwork should demonstrate originality, creativity, and a unique interpretation of the theme.
Technical skill and execution: The artwork should demonstrate technical proficiency and excellence in execution.
Overall impact: The artwork should have a strong visual impact and effectively communicate the artist's message.
Categories:
There are two categories: Under 18 years and 18+ years
Shortlist:
A shortlist of up to ten artworks will be decided by the judges, for each category, by 14th September 2023. All entrants will be contacted via email by Holdsworth House on 15th September to advise if their work has been shortlisted.
All shortlisted artists (+1) will be invited to an afternoon tea prize-giving event at Holdsworth House on Sunday 8th October 2023, where the winners will be announced.
People’s Choice Award:
All shortlisted artworks across both categories will be displayed at Holdsworth House and on the hotel's Facebook account and website. An online voting form will allow the public to vote for their single, overall preferred artwork. The winner will be deemed the entry with the most votes.
Winners:
A first, second and third place winner will be selected by the judges for each category, and the winners announced on Sunday 8th October (along with the People’s Choice award) at an afternoon tea prize-giving event at Holdsworth House. The winners will be also announced on the hotel's social media platforms and website shortly afterwards.
Prizes:
18+ Category:
First Place: The winner will win the Artist on Holiday prize and receive 4 x one-night stays (for two adults including dinner and breakfast) to be taken over a 12-month period (one stay per season)*; Winner's original artwork will be framed by Halifax Friendly Framing and displayed in the hotel for 12 months after which it will be returned to the artist and replaced with a digital copy.
Second Place: Gift voucher for Champagne Afternoon Tea for four at Holdsworth House
Third Place: Gift voucher for Prosecco Afternoon Tea for two at Holdsworth House

Terms & Conditions Holdsworth House Hotel & Restaurant Art Competition:
- Eligibility: The competition is free to enter and open to all, regardless of age or ability. Proof of age may be required.
- Expenses: Any expenses incurred by entering the competition (including but not limited to materials, submission, contacting or visiting the hotel) are the responsibility of the artist/entrant and will not be reimbursed or subsidised by Holdsworth House Hotel & Restaurant.
- Submission Guidelines: Please refrain from sending physical copies or original artwork to the hotel, as they will not be accepted for the competition. Holdsworth House Hotel & Restaurant is not liable for any loss or damage to submitted artwork.
- Digital Artwork Restrictions: For digital art submissions, artists must create their artwork without the use of AI apps, programs, or filters to enhance or create the art. By submitting a digital artwork, the artist confirms that the submitted piece is their original creation and has not been generated or significantly altered using artificial intelligence. Any entry found to be in violation of this clause may be disqualified at the discretion of Holdsworth House Hotel & Restaurant.
- Artwork Rights: By entering the competition, participants grant Holdsworth House Hotel & Restaurant and its marketing agencies, the judges, relevant media outlets, and associated businesses a non-exclusive, royalty-free license to use, reproduce, and publish their artwork for marketing purposes and public display, both online and in print. Artists will be credited with their name and contact information where possible and necessary.
- Intellectual Property: Entrants must ensure that their submitted artwork is original, does not infringe upon any third-party rights, and is not subject to any copyright, trademark, or other intellectual property claims. Holdsworth House Hotel & Restaurant will not be held responsible for any disputes or claims arising from the use of submitted artwork.
- Good Faith Clause: In case of any ambiguity, all parties involved shall act in good faith to resolve the issue amicably.
- Judging Process: If more than 100 entries are submitted in either category, a pre-selection will be conducted by Holdsworth House Hotel & Restaurant director Nick Moss. Nick will select 100 artworks to be considered for shortlisting. The judges will then choose 10 pieces from each category as shortlisted works. Nick Moss' and the judges' decisions are final, and no correspondence will be entered into.
- Presentation Event: Shortlisted entrants, along with one guest, will be invited to attend a complimentary afternoon tea presentation event at Holdsworth House Hotel & Restaurant on Sunday 8th October 2023 (time to be confirmed). Attendees are responsible for their own travel, transfer, and associated costs, which will not be reimbursed. Invited artists will need to notify the hotel of any allergies or dietary requirements (14 days in advance of arrival) via email at info@holdsworthhouse.co.uk Additional seats may be purchased subject to availability by calling 01422 240024.
- Liability: Holdsworth House Hotel & Restaurant and its associated parties are not responsible for any personal injury, loss, or damage incurred by entrants or attendees during the competition or presentation event.
- Risk: In the event that original artwork is required for judging shortlisted entries, Holdsworth House Hotel & Restaurant will contact the respective artist to arrange shipping, with costs not exceeding £50. Holdsworth House & Restaurant shall not provide insurance for shortlisted artwork; artists are responsible for securing insurance if desired. The winning artworks, displayed at the hotel for 12 months, will be insured by Holdsworth House & Restaurant for loss, damage, or theft up to a value no greater than £250. If additional insurance coverage is required, the artist must arrange it independently. The name, address, telephone number and the title must be shown clearly on the back of each work.
- Artwork Requirements: Shortlisted entrants must bring their original entry to the afternoon tea event for the winners' artwork to be collected and framed.
- Winners' Obligations: First-prize winners must agree to the free loan of their original artwork to Holdsworth House Hotel & Restaurant for 12 months following the competition prize-giving event. Winners must sign a digital print copy of their artwork for permanent display at Holdsworth House Hotel & Restaurant.
- Framing: First place winners in each category, and the People's Choice artwork, will be professionally framed by Friendly Framing in Halifax. Artists may request their preferred framing method/style, but this cannot be guaranteed. Holdsworth House Hotel & Restaurant is not responsible for any loss or damage to artwork due to framing.
- Prizes: No cash or alternative prizes are available. *18+ Category first and second place winners' prize is non-transferable; £80 allowance per room per stay for dinner (based on two adults sharing the room); All extras to be paid for on departure; Excludes travel and transfer costs; No cash alternative. †We are currently finalising the details with our selected supplier for these prizes and will announce the name of the supplier soon; the value of these gift vouchers may increase, but they will not decrease from the stated amount.
- Publicity: Competition entrants may be required to participate in reasonable publicity, which may include publishing the artist's full name and photograph in print or online. By accepting these terms and conditions, entrants consent to their names and photographs being taken and used by Holdsworth House Hotel & Restaurant, its marketing agencies, and any interested media outlets.
- Data Protection: Holdsworth House Hotel & Restaurant will process any personal information provided by entrants in accordance with its privacy policy and applicable data protection laws.
- Right to Cancel: Holdsworth House Hotel & Restaurant reserves the right to cancel or amend the competition and these terms and conditions without prior notice in the event of circumstances beyond its control, including but not limited to natural disasters, public health emergencies, or legal restrictions. Any changes to the competition will be communicated to entrants as soon as possible.
- Governing Law: These terms and conditions, and any disputes arising from them, shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the United Kingdom. By entering the competition, entrants agree to submit to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of the United Kingdom to resolve any disputes.
- Severability: If any provision of these terms and conditions is found to be invalid or unenforceable by a court of competent jurisdiction, the remaining provisions shall remain in full force and effect, and the invalid or unenforceable provision shall be deemed modified to the minimum extent necessary to render it valid and enforceable.
- Entire Agreement: These terms and conditions constitute the entire agreement between the entrant and Holdsworth House Hotel & Restaurant with respect to the competition and supersede all prior understandings, agreements, or representations, whether written or oral, relating to the competition. No variation of these terms and conditions shall be effective unless in writing and signed by Holdsworth House Hotel & Restaurant.
