The Holdsworth House Wedding Tasting
When you book your wedding at Holdsworth House in Halifax, you are invited to a relaxed, personalised wedding tasting before your big day. This experience allows you to enjoy selected dishes from our wedding menus in the restaurant, helping you feel confident about your wedding breakfast choices and the way your day will be delivered.
What is the Holdsworth House Wedding Tasting?
The Holdsworth House wedding tasting is an invitation for couples who have booked their wedding with us to enjoy selected dishes from our wedding menus in the restaurant. It is designed to help you refine your wedding breakfast choices and feel confident about both the food and how it will be presented on the day.
We welcome several couples each week for tastings, which gives our kitchen and restaurant teams the opportunity to understand individual preferences, dietary requirements and personal tastes, ensuring every wedding menu feels considered and well suited to the couple.
“We loved our tasting. It gave us a preview into how special our day was going to be.”

Why is the restaurant team involved in weddings at Holdsworth House?
Weddings are central to life at Holdsworth House, and food plays a defining role in how a wedding day is remembered. For that reason, our experienced restaurant and kitchen teams are fully involved in every wedding we host.
Each wedding is personal, and being trusted with such an important occasion is something our team takes seriously. From tastings through to the wedding day itself, the same people who deliver restaurant-quality dining are involved, ensuring consistency, care and a level of service that couples and their guests genuinely feel.
What makes Holdsworth House weddings unique?
It’s surprisingly rare for wedding venues to offer a truly personalised tasting experience, yet food is one of the most memorable parts of a wedding day. At Holdsworth House, we believe it makes complete sense to experience your wedding menu in advance, just as you would your cake or your outfit.
The wedding tasting is one of the ways our approach stands apart. You don’t just arrive on the day and hope for the best; you enjoy the journey towards your wedding, with time to refine choices, ask questions and feel confident in every detail.
Wedding tastings usually take place a few weeks before the big day, giving couples reassurance and something special to look forward to as their celebration approaches.
What’s involved in the wedding tasting?
The wedding tasting is designed to feel like an enjoyable meal out in our restaurant — because that’s exactly what it is. Before your visit, we’ll agree the dishes you’d like to try and book a table at a time that suits you.
A senior member of the team will be on hand throughout to guide you through each course, answer questions and offer recommendations where helpful. The tasting is included as part of the wedding package you’ve booked, with nothing to pay on the day unless you choose to order additional items.
Each person typically enjoys a starter, sorbet, main course and dessert, along with two red and two white wines from the wedding menu. Couples booked on the Vintage Tea Party wedding package will experience the afternoon tea instead.
These are not reduced tasting portions. You’ll be served the full dishes exactly as they would appear on your wedding day, allowing you to appreciate both presentation and flavour with complete confidence.
Dietary requirements are discussed in advance, and you’re welcome to try dishes that reflect the needs of your guests. If you’re unsure where to start, we’ll talk through your preferences and suggest suitable options — our traditional English beef sirloin with Yorkshire puddings and rich gravy is a long-standing favourite.
Why is a wedding tasting important?
A wedding tasting gives you complete confidence in one of the most important parts of your day. It allows you to see how dishes are presented, experience the flavours as they will be served on the day, and understand exactly how we deliver food at scale — so there are no surprises, only anticipation.
The tasting is also a valuable opportunity for us to spend time together, answer questions and fine-tune details. We don’t believe in “unusual requests” — just conversations and solutions. It’s often the point where couples relax, knowing they are in experienced, capable hands.
“Our tasting was fantastic — we loved every minute of it. All the staff at Holdsworth House genuinely care about your experience.”
