Your hotel for Exploring Yorkshire
There is a reason guests return to Holdsworth House year after year. Our secluded gardens three miles north of Halifax, and Grade II Listed Jacobean manor has been welcoming guests for decades. From the moment you arrive, the pace slows down.
Four nights gives you the space to take your time. Here are a few more things worth making the trip for this summer:
David Hockney Artwork at Salts Mill, Saltaire
Bradford lost arguably its most famous son in June 2026, but artist David Hockney's work lives on in the city where it all began. We urge you to see the magnificent 20 Flowers for 2025 exhibition when you visit Yorkshire and celebrate the skill and pleasure of Hockney's art; it's the first time this exhibition has appeared outside of London.
Salts Mill in the UNESCO World Heritage village of Saltaire, around 20 minutes' drive from Holdsworth House Hotel. Salts Mill holds one of the largest collections of David Hockney art anywhere in the world, and this summer it feels like a particularly meaningful place to spend time with it.
The exhibition, "20 Flowers for 2025 and Some Bigger Pictures" is on until January 2027 and brings together Hockney's vivid iPad flower paintings alongside large-scale landscape works, described by the artist himself as "fresh pictures of a very beautiful world." It is a fitting tribute to a man who never stopped looking at life with joy and curiosity.
Free to enter, open Wednesday to Sunday, 10am to 4pm and rarely any queues. Address: Salts Mill, Victoria Road, Saltaire, West Yorkshire, BD18 3LA (Driving? For satnavs use postcode BD17 7DR)
Live at The Piece Hall, Halifax
The Piece Hall in Halifax is one of the most spectacular buildings in the country and its oldest surviving Georgian cloth hall.
This summer, it transforms into an outdoor music venue to host its biggest concert series yet. From legendary names to contemporary acts, there is something for every taste across a packed programme of open-air gigs. Check the full line-up at thepiececehall.co.uk and plan your evening around it. The Piece Hall is 5-10 minutes from the hotel by taxi; Holdsworth House is it's only four-star hotel nearby.
Haworth and Bronte Country
The 2026 film adaptation of Wuthering Heights, directed by Emerald Fennell, has brought a fresh wave of visitors to Holdsworth House Hotel, the Bronte moors and Haworth – the village where the Bronte sisters lived. Holdsworth House has a historic connection to the Brontes, and actors Margot Robbie, Jacob Elordi and director Fennell stayed here after filming the blockbuster.
Haworth is just 20 minutes from the hotel and worth the trip to walk the cobbled streets, visit the brilliant Bronte Parsonage Museum where Emily Brontë lived and wrote, and from there head out across the authenitc Bronte Moors on foot. It is a day spent in Yorkshire that will stay with you.
We've partnered with the Bronte Parsonage Museum to offer an official Bronte Break. So if you'd prefer that overnight short break itinerary, click here to find out more.
Hold to This Earth, Yorkshire Sculpture Park
Just over half an hour from the hotel, Yorkshire Sculpture Park has built a well-deserved reputation as one of the best places to experience art outdoors in the UK. Set within 500 acres of historic parkland, YSP is a destination in itself.
The headline exhibition this summer is "Hold to This Earth: Works by Contemporary Indigenous North American Artists from Tia Collection", a landmark show bringing together 67 works by 38 artists spanning sculpture, film, ceramics, photography and textile art.
