The Wedding Show Round at Holdsworth House
A wedding show round at Holdsworth House is the most effective way to decide whether the venue is right for you. Led by our senior management team, including General Manager Chris Meehan, each relaxed visit gives you the chance to walk the house, explore the gardens, see the ceremony and reception spaces, and talk through how your wedding day could unfold here. With no sales pressure and plenty of time to ask questions, the show round is designed to give you clarity, confidence and a genuine feel for the venue before you make any decisions.
Meet Chris Meehan, General Manager
Chris Meehan has worked at Holdsworth House for over a decade and knows the venue inside out — from the historic rooms and gardens to the behind-the-scenes details that make a wedding day run smoothly. Before becoming General Manager, Chris held senior operational roles and has personally overseen more than 500 weddings.
Chris conducts many of the wedding show-round appointments himself. His role during your visit is simple: to help you understand how your wedding would work at Holdsworth House, answer your questions honestly, and give you a clear, practical sense of whether the venue feels right for you.
Why is it important to visit a venue for a wedding show round?
Online photos and videos are a great starting point, but nothing compares to walking through a venue in person. A wedding show round lets you experience the atmosphere properly, see the rooms for scale, explore the gardens, and understand how the house feels as a whole. That’s especially true at Holdsworth House, where the character of the building really comes alive, particularly in winter when the fires are lit.
It’s also your chance to meet the wedding team who would be looking after you. Building that relationship early matters. You quickly get a sense of how a venue operates, how organised the team is, and whether you feel comfortable putting your day in their hands. And yes, there’s usually a glass of something waiting too.
Most couples know within the first ten minutes whether a venue feels right. As you walk around, it helps to imagine the day from both perspectives, as the couple and as a guest. Where will you get ready? Where will photos be taken? How do guests move between spaces? Where is the bar, where are the facilities, and how does everything flow?
A show round is also the time to ask practical questions. Does the venue offer a range of bedrooms for couples, families and older guests? Are the reviews consistently strong? Is the venue busy with weddings? These are all useful indicators of experience, reliability and quality.
How many venues should a couple view?
I usually suggest viewing two or three venues. That gives you enough comparison to understand what matters most to you, without overwhelming the decision. Seeing too many venues can sometimes create confusion, as they begin to blur together. Your ideal venue should stand out clearly.
That said, some couples visit just one venue and immediately know it’s right. There’s no set rule. A wedding venue is a very personal choice and often reflects who you are as a couple, as well as the kind of experience you want your guests to have.
Just as important as the setting is the team behind it. You need to feel confident that the people you meet will deliver your wedding smoothly, professionally and without unnecessary stress. When the venue and the team both feel right, the decision usually becomes very easy.
What’s involved in a wedding show-round?
A wedding show-round at Holdsworth House is an informal, face-to-face visit with no sales pressure. It’s simply a chance to see the venue properly, ask questions and decide whether it feels right for you.
Show-rounds last around 45 to 60 minutes and are hosted by me or another senior member of the wedding team. During your visit, we’ll show you all areas of the hotel, including the house, gardens, ceremony spaces (including our licensed outdoor ceremony areas), reception rooms, bar, restaurant and available bedrooms.
We’ll talk you through how a wedding day flows here and show you images of the rooms set up in different layouts, so you can visualise how your own wedding could work. We’re also happy to offer guidance on timings, running orders and practical details, whether you’re marrying at the hotel or elsewhere.
Over a drink, we’ll discuss your ideas, answer any questions and explain the booking process clearly. You’ll leave with a realistic understanding of what we offer and indicative pricing. If you wish, you can also provisionally hold a date for up to two weeks with no payment and no obligation.
If there’s anything specific you’d like to see or discuss, just let us know. A good venue should be open, transparent and confident in every part of what it offers.
What happens after the show-round?
If you’ve requested a bespoke quote, we’ll email this to you shortly after your visit. We always encourage couples to take a few days to reflect on what they’ve seen and discussed before making any decisions.
If you choose to provisionally hold a date at Holdsworth House, you’ll have up to 14 days to ask further questions before confirming your booking. During this time, there is no obligation. To secure your date, we require a signed contract and a deposit (usually £1,750).
Your contract includes a clear schedule of payment instalments. Once your date is confirmed, we’ll be in touch to arrange your wedding menu tasting, discuss final guest numbers and timings, and invite you to our open days and events. These are a great opportunity to gather ideas, ask questions and meet some of our trusted local suppliers.
Your top tips for wedding couples
Remember that the day is about you. Try not to lose sight of that.
Wedding planning shouldn’t feel overwhelming. When decisions start to feel heavy, step back and focus on what makes you happy, rather than trying to please everyone else.
“Beautiful, over and over again.”
“We just wanted to say a big thank you to everyone at Holdsworth House for making our wedding day absolutely amazing. From start to finish, we couldn’t have asked for anything more. Holdsworth House was the first place we viewed and the venue every other place was compared to. It really was the best choice. The comments from our guests were equally positive and mirrored exactly how we felt.”
