FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Do you have a wedding license for legal marriage ceremonies to take place?
Holdsworth House is fully licensed and can host your entire wedding day: your marriage or civil partnership ceremony, your wedding breakfast and your evening reception. Our ancient Gazebo is the smallest licensed wedding venue in Yorkshire (and the whole of England). You can even marry outdoors in the Colonnade Courtyard with its pretty outdoor fireplace.
Do you hold more than one wedding a day?
No we only permit one wedding per day, so each couple is looked after to the best of our ability.
I only want a small wedding, can I still hold it at Holdsworth House?
Yes you can have a big traditional wedding or a small boutique wedding, we have packages for both or will create something bespoke for you. There are five rooms available for 8 to 120 guests seated comfortably. Evening receptions can accomodate up to 150 guests.
Do you cater for LGBT couples?
Yes we welcome all couples and have had the pleasure of hosting many same sex marriages, civil partnerships and receptions here. We work closely with the Halifax registrars and are up to date with all current marriage licensing laws.
Can my guests stay over?
Holdsworth House has 38 ensuite bedrooms including single rooms, twins, doubles, suites, interconnecting rooms, accessible rooms and dog friendly rooms. Rooms are sold on a first come first serve basis. You will be allocated a special wedding guest tariff for your party, which is valid up to 6 weeks out and only bookable direct. Within six weeks of your wedding date if your guests haven’t booked they will be required to pay our Best Available Rate. Guests should book direct with the hotel, we guarantee our prices won’t be cheaper on any other website. Why book direct
Will there be other guests in the hotel?
Yes, unless you take out the Exclusive Use option. Holdsworth House is a four star hotel and there may be other hotel guests and restaurant diners, however they will not be permitted access to the areas designated to your wedding party.
Can I hold a religious ceremony at Holdsworth House?
Religious ceremonies cannot be held at Holdsworth House as it is not a designated religious site. You can get married in the religious venue of your choice and then hold your wedding reception and evening party with us afterwards. Civil marriages/partnerships are permitted here and conducted by the Halifax Registrars.
